Lille OSC has been playing in red for years, but why? The answer is surprising.

What happened?

The club started playing in red in 1999, when it changed equipment suppliers and Nike did not create a jersey for the Dogues. Lille OSC therefore wore a red jersey with a wide white stripe, and magic happened: the team was promoted to D1 at the end of a magnificent season.

Why did red become permanent?

Red became permanent after a magnificent season, with a qualification for the Champions League for the promoted team. Maxime Pousset, author of the 80th anniversary book of Lille OSC, writes: « Some see in this red a good omen, others the symbol of a new era under the sign of the millennium change ».

What is Lille OSC's record this season?

Lille OSC is currently 3rd in Ligue 1, with 61 points, 18 wins, 7 losses and 9 draws, and a total of 52 goals scored and 37 conceded. The club is 15 points behind leaders Paris Saint Germain. And with a recent form of LWDWD, the Dogues aim to maintain their position on the podium.
